• Ruby Grapefruit and Ginger Marmalade

    Grapefruit always reminds me of my home economics teacher in Primary School. She used to have a Grapefruit for breakfast every day – since home economics was our first class of the day. I can still smell the tartness and see the bright red flesh of the ruby grapefruit. Although I disliked the taste when I was young, I started to eat it when I went to University, as part of a diet whose name I still block from my memory. Lynette from a couple of blocks down my street received a couple of grapefruits as a present from her Mother-in-Law. Not really knowing what to do with them and growing out of ideas, she offered a couple of them to me. This jam takes me back to all those home economics classes and the lovely teacher whose name I so wish I could remember.
